My wife is a freelance makeup artist, and she needed a site to serve as her portfolio and booking page. Once we got the hex code for her favorite shade of purple (a color I'm unable to distinguish from blue), we compared the sites of her favorite competition. We realized that almost all of them were built using generic templates that were adaptive, rather than responsive. Since we opted out of using a CMS to cut costs, and she knows enough HTML to maintain it herself, I could focus my efforts on a lean, mean responsive design with Bootstrap.
Most of her clients needed to access the site by phone, so it is a single-page scrolling site, rather than a paginated one, and it hides non-essential information as the screen gets smaller. The site is very heavy on images, so it was especially important to optimize them using Kraken.io and Photoshop.
The site benefits greatly from APIs and embeded content. With Google Analytics, we discovered that most of our leads were coming from Instagram, so we wanted to use the site to expand on the content of her Instagram videos and images. She recieved a lot of feedback from clients requesting a walkthrough for some of her signature looks, so she made a tutorial video with her blog as a detailed reference.
